Welcome to the Tourism Department at Thompson Rivers University!
Tourism is a vibrant, dynamic and ever-evolving sector of our economy. Here in British Columbia it stands as a leading economic driver, and globally it offers immense development opportunities. More than just an industry, tourism is a transformative sociocultural phenomenon that deeply impacts individuals, communities and broader destination regions.
At TRU's Tourism Department, we're excited to offer programs that prepare students for dynamic and rewarding careers in this exciting field. Our innovative curricula are co-created with provincial, regional, local and Indigenous tourism representatives, integrating the latest research and studies into our courses.
We are committed to providing students with hands-on learning experiences that extend far beyond the classroom. Through student exchanges, field schools and work placements, our students engage with a diverse range of businesses, community groups and more in the tourism sector.
Our tourism alumni are proof of the strength and success of our programs. They enjoy fulfilling careers in the tourism sector in Kamloops, throughout BC and across the globe, and they’re always ready to support the next generation of tourism graduates.
As one of Canada's leading tourism research faculties, our department focuses on themes like social and environmental sustainability, ethics and social justice, hospitality technology and innovation, entrepreneurship, and business development. We also cover food, wine, events, sports tourism and much more. Our faculty and staff collaborate with community and industry partners to ensure our research remains socially relevant and enhances classroom experiences.
We're always eager to chat about tourism. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us, or any of our colleagues, if you’d like to talk tourism too!
